Vietnam – The Holy See: Strengthening Bilateral Relations
On 12 September 2025, the 12th Meeting of the Vietnam – Holy See Joint Working Group took place at the Vatican, with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations and discussing the life of the Catholic Church in Vietnam.
The meeting was held in an atmosphere of friendship, trust, and mutual respect, reflecting the growing understanding between Vietnam and the Holy See. Both sides expressed appreciation for the constructive dialogue and the progress achieved in bilateral relations.
The two sides recognized the positive role of the Catholic Church in Vietnam in contributing to the nation’s development. The spirit of “being good Catholics and good citizens” continues to serve as a bridge between faith and society.
Both sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation, particularly through high-level exchanges and regular meetings of the Joint Working Group. They reaffirmed the importance of maintaining these channels of dialogue to strengthen ties and mutual understanding.
On this occasion, the Vietnamese delegation was received in audience by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, and also met with the Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and Archbishop Paul Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.
The 12th Meeting of the Vietnam – Holy See Joint Working Group stands as an important milestone in the journey of bilateral relations. It not only consolidates mutual trust but also opens new paths for the Catholic Church in Vietnam to continue its mission of communion and service in society.
