South of Vietnam Catholic Tours (5D4N)

Day 1: Saigon Arrival

Arrival into Tan Son Nhat Airport, time to be confirmed.

Met on arrival with private transportation to your hotel of choice in Saigon.

Day 2: Saigon Now and Then – Notre Dame Cathedral – Pink Cathedral

We’ll begin with a short orientation tour (walking / driving) of Old Saigon Streets and Iconic Buildings. Appreciate the splendidly restored exteriors of the Opera House and the former Hotel de Ville which are still two of the finest buildings in Saigon.

Wander up to the Notre Dame Cathedral, a red brick edifice with twin spires based on the original construction from Paris. Then head across the square to the Central Post office, designed by the French architect, Gustav Eiffel before he had risen to fame for the Eiffel Tower.

Pink Church Tân Đnh church ( Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus) is a church built during the French colonial period in the 1880s when Vietnam was part ofFriench Indochina. The church is situated at 289 Hai Bà Trưng street, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and belongs to Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh City.

The church architecture features Roman style architecture. It is the second largest church in Ho Chi Minh City, after the Saigon Notre- Dame Basilica (Vietnamese: Nhà thờĐức Bà Sài Gòn) in District 1.

Day 3: Cao Dai temples – Cu Chi Tunnels

After breakfast, depart to Cao Dai Temples in Tay Ninh – Cao Dai Holysee Temple is the cathedral of the Cao Daism religion with the Divine Eye – official symbol of Caodaism.

WARTIME TUNNELS

Cu Chi is about 40 km northwest and around one and a half hours drive. The Cu Chi Tunnels are an elaborate underground community made up of about 250 km of tunnels and chambers below the city. The tunnels were dug with simple tools and bare hands during the French occupation in the 1940s, and further expanded during the Vietnam War in the 1960s to provide refuge and a defensive advantage over the American soldiers.

Despite all the bombings in their town, the Cu Chi people were able to continue day-to-day living beneath the soil, where they slept, ate, planned attacks, healed their sick, and taught their young. Some even wed and gave birth underground, but over 10,000 lost their lives here.

Day 4: Saigon to Mekong Delta (Cai Be) 30Km+ Cycling

Meet you at your your hotel around 7am (tbc) and transfer by road around 2 hours to Tan An, in the Mekong Delta Province of Long An.

From here, we’ll ride along the river bank to My Tho and then cruise along the Mekong River to see the local floating market in Cai Be.

Lunch will be at a local ancient house. The motorized boat cruises more along natural creeks and villages in Tien Giang Province to visit a bee hive farm wher taste natural honey and end drink honey tea.

All around this district we’ll enjoy tropical fruits, see round a local whiskey distillery and other small family businesses making rice paper,coconut candy and coconut processing.

Keep riding along the single tracks around the village in Cai Be. From here, we’ll drive back to Saigon, arriving back at your hotel by around 6.00pm (tbc)

Day 5: Saigon Departure

Free at leisure till transferring to airport for your flight home. End of your Vietnam Catholic Tour.
