Itinerary
Start today no later than 7.30 am for our day exploration of the Mekong Delta, driving around two hours to the small Delta town of Cai Be. Here the Tien River forms the border between Tien Giang, Vinh Long and Ben Tre Provinces.
The program will start with a quick visit of Cai Be. We can walk around the orchard & enjoy some fruits while listening to the traditional music at the local garden.
Then, the rowing boat will take you deeper into the countryside on smaller canals to enjoy the peaceful time.
Back to our boat to go across one of the longest rivers in the world, Mekong River, to come to An Bình Island. Travel on the handmade canal to homesstay & have an optional lunch. After lunch, we can walk in the local village to visit the local workshop to see how to make rice paper, coconut candy, pop-rice… Enjoy some sweets with a cup of hot tea.
Optional biking can be made for leisure! It will be so amazing to bike on village paths to see the local daily life: orchard, school, church, pagoda, traditional houses…
Visit the brick kilns where you can see how the local people create beautiful potteries from clay. Around 3 pm, the boat will arrive at Vinh Long, where you have a chance to explore the land market before the 1-hour drive back to your hotel at Can Tho by late afternoon.
A visit to Cai Rang floating market on a small boat from Can Tho is a definite Mekong Delta highlight. It’s one of the most photogenic spots in southern Vietnam. Floating markets have long thrived in the delta since they’re the most convenient way for traders who transport everything on the river, to trade their wares.
Cai Rang market is best visited very early. Leave Can Tho at around 6am to arrive at the market around 7am when things will be in full swing with hundreds of small boats converging to buy and sell.
Stopping by Le Binh market on the way back to Can Tho is recommended. It’s a superbly chaotic local market with plenty of the delta’s fish bounty on display alongside fruits and vegetables.
Return to your hotel in Can Tho for breakfast and then check-out. Mid-morning we’ll drive back to Saigon, taking around 4 hours with a stop along the way, arriving into Saigon by mid-afternoon and check-in to your hotel.
