This day will take in the highlight sites and Hanoi Old Quarter sights including Hanoi Cathedral, Cua Bac Church, Temple of Literature, The Mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam Museum of Ethnology and water puppet show
Our first stop is the Hanoi Cathedral (official name:St Joseph’s Cathedral), which is the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Hanoi, where the archbishop’s seat is. This is also an ancient church in this city, often taking place the religious activities of the parishioners of the Archdiocese of Hanoi.
After that we will visit The Mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh which is located in the center of Ba Dinh Square, which is the place where Ho read the Declaration of Independence on September 2, 1945, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh’s body is preserved in the cooled, central hall of the mausoleum, which is protected by a military honor guard. (inside mausoleum open Tue – Thur only).
Next, we will visit Cua Bac Church, which is a distinctive architectural gem that adds a unique touch to Hanoi’s urban landscape. The church features a Romanesque architectural layout, yet it seamlessly integrates elements of both Asian and European styles. This blend creates a signature representation of the Indochine architectural style, renowned for its elegant and harmonious fusion of different cultural influences.
Lunch served at a local restaurant for a taste of authentic Hanoi cuisine.
After lunch, we will visit the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university and a well-preserved example of traditional Vietnamese architecture.
The Temple of Literature was first constructed in 1070 and is dedicated to Confucius, sages and scholars. Also here is The Imperial Academy – constructed in 1076, which was the first national university of Vietnam, it has preserved its ancient architectural style of many dynasties.
Our next stop is the Museum of Ethnology, one of the most interesting museums in Hanoi. Here, you’ll explore Vietnam’s diverse ethnic groups through a rich collection of artifacts, exhibits, and traditional costumes. This museum offers a deep insight into the cultural and ethnic diversity of the country.
Take your seats for the Water Puppet Show at Thang Long Theatre.
Vietnamese water puppetry is a unique folk art that originated a thousand years ago during the Ly dynasty. It originated in the villages of the Red River Delta area of northern Vietnam. Today’s Vietnamese water puppetry is a unique variation on the ancient Asian puppet tradition.
With music, singing and special lighting, this is a very highly and enjoyable show for all ages.
