A Mid-Autumn Visit to Nguyet Bieu House of Hope – Where Faith and Love Light the Way
In the peaceful village of Nguyet Bieu, just outside Hue, there lies a humble yet extraordinary place called the Nguyet Bieu House of Hope — a home filled with love, faith, and endless compassion.
Our team from Vietnam Catholic Tours had the special opportunity to visit this heartwarming place, where the Sisters of the Lovers of the Holy Cross of Hue have dedicated their lives to caring for children in need. What we found there was not just a shelter — it was a home where faith and love truly light the way.
A Mission Rooted in Love and Service
Since 1956, the Sisters have been present here, devoting their lives to pastoral work and to those in need. With the assistance of Father Gioan Baotixita Nguyen Van Han, the Sisters acquired the land currently occupied by their community at 560 Bui Thi Xuan, Thuy Bieu, Hue City, and established the Nguyet Bieu Lovers of the Holy Cross Convent with the mission of evangelizing the local pagans.
After the war, as many locals suffered from disabilities caused by the conflict and the nearby Long Tho cement factory, the Sisters transformed their convent into the Nguyet Bieu House of Hope in 2000 – a place to care for orphans, abandoned children, and children with disabilities. In 2011, the Home was officially recognized by the government as a Non-Public Social Protection Center.
A Loving Home for 56 Children in Hue
Today, the House of Hope is home to 56 children – each with a unique story, but all sharing the same radiant smiles and bright spirits. The Sisters not only provide food and shelter but also accompany the children in many aspects of life, including:
- Faith formation and moral education
- Academic learning and life skills
- Vocational training and job creation
- Cultural and sports activities
- Care, rehabilitation, and community reintegration
Among them, several hearing-impaired children have developed impressive artistic talents. Their paintings, handmade cards, and beautifully decorated tote bags reflect their creativity and joy – gentle works of art that warm the hearts of everyone who visits.
A Mid-Autumn Visit From Vietnam Catholic Tours
When Vietnam Catholic Tours arrived, laughter filled every classroom. We brought along a few small Mid-Autumn gifts – simple tokens of affection, yet the happiness we received in return was far greater. The children’s bright eyes and cheerful smiles reminded us that love is truly the universal language of the heart.
Day by day, the Sisters continue their quiet mission – sowing seeds of love, nurturing and guiding each child to live with dignity, strength, and hope. The Home is also expanding with new outdoor playgrounds and sports areas, helping the children grow physically and emotionally.
